An E&I 2-Minute Read
The Mollenkopf Athletic Center at Purdue University is a premier indoor athletic facility designed to support the university’s football program and other sports initiatives. Built in 1990 at a cost of $10.3 million, the center spans 92,400 square feet and features a full-sized indoor football field with spacious sidelines, reaching 86 feet at its peak. Named after Hall of Fame coach Jack Mollenkopf, who led Purdue to the 1967 Rose Bowl, the facility includes a two-story weight training room, meeting rooms, and coaches’ offices. It serves as the headquarters for Purdue’s sports performance staff and houses the Hall of Glory, celebrating athletic achievements. The center is used year-round for training, conditioning, and team operations, making it a cornerstone of Purdue’s athletic infrastructure. Its strategic location near other sports venues enhances accessibility and integration across athletic departments.

Purdue University has recently completed a series of strategic renovations to its iconic Mollenkopf Athletic Center, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics for student-athletes and staff. The project, led by CORE Construction, focused on modernizing the 2nd and 3rd floors of the 13,000-square-foot facility in West Lafayette, Indiana. Key upgrades included the addition of a new elevator stop and refinements to the existing elevator, now featuring Purdue-branded interior finishes.
The third floor was transformed into a suite of offices serving Purdue’s athletic teams, compliance officers, and academic services. These changes aim to streamline operations and improve support for student-athletes. Throughout the renovation, CORE implemented a site-specific safety plan that allowed the center to remain open and operational, minimizing disruption to daily activities.
In addition to structural upgrades, the fieldhouse received a fresh installation of artificial turf, covering over 92,000 square feet. This new surface enhances training conditions and reflects Purdue’s commitment to maintaining top-tier athletic facilities.
These renovations are part of a broader capital improvement strategy at Purdue, aligning with the university’s long-term goals to elevate its athletic infrastructure and support services.
