Howard Community College Partners with Gilbane Construction, to Build a Mega Rec Center
Howard Community College, in Columbia MD, demolished its existing 60,000 square foot athletics center to break ground on a new, much larger facility that combines athletics spaces with math. You read that right! The Facilities Planner and Project Manager at Howard Community College acknowledged he could not benchmark a comparable building because it did not exist. Planned for the south side of the Howard Community College (HCC) campus, the Athletics and Mathematics complex has four floors. The new building is 193,000 square feet and the project cost is $102 million. This project addressed space challenges on campus. The athletics complex was constructed in 1969 and had been operating well beyond its structural life. The mathematics division was formerly housed in an office building with inflexible instructional spaces.
