A new recreation and wellness center prioritizes well-being for students in Fort Myers, FL.

Florida Gulf Coast University had a goal to add a new state-of-the-art student health and wellness center in the South Village of main campus. FGCU's Waterfront at Lake Como is even a designated swimming and sunbathing area for students! The health and wellness center wanted group fitness classes, personal training areas, an aquatics center, outdoor complex, multiple recreation fields, and to take advantage of prime waterfront space on campus. After the addition of this new health and wellness complex, it staffs 180 students. The center is for students and faculty, and is an exciting addition to the Fort Myers, FL campus.

An E&I contract partner, Gilbane Construction, provided construction management services for the new state-of-the-art student health center. The two story building features a double gymnasium, group fitness, strength room, cardio deck, observation concourse, administrative suites, exterior event plaza, and exterior fitness area. The approximately 46,000 square foot facility even features classrooms for the school's human performance program. The Gilbane Construction team developed a phased GMP approach so the site work could begin while the building's details and GMP could be finalized. This allowed for a two-month improvement in the start of the project.
