At the University of Rochester (NY), this university has built a pedestrian-friendly retail and mixed use area where the community and campus come together. This district, named "College Town Rochester" includes over 125,000 square feet of street-level retail. It features several large anchor tenants, like a two-level 20,000 square Barnes & Noble Bookstore, and a 136-room Hilton Garden Inn. Restaurants in this district have a lot of outdoor patio spaces and spacious sidewalks, which encourage pedestrians to visit its 25 shops and boutiques. College Town has become an exciting mixed-use, close-knit district. It provides the local community and students a one-of-a-kind, vibrant place to live, learn, dine, shop, work, and play. College Town was an ambitious public-private partnership. See below for pictures of College Town Rochester!

There was a time when the gateway from the city of Rochester into campus was an old outdated motel and a few parking lots. With this new master plan, the Gilbane Building Company team obtained local and state approvals to secure public and private financing. With this, and 18 months on nonstop construction, Rochester NY became a real "college town." It helps attract and maintain both students and faculty. Also more medical professionals are drawn to the area, as the Rochester Medical Center is also nearby. The vibrant urban village offers so much to bring the community together, including "The Green," which is a grassy space in the middle of the village that hosts festivals, movie nights, and concerts. See the full case study, and even more pictures of the project, published by Gilbane. You have an E&I contract with Gilbane Building Company, feel free to contact your E&I rep.

What are Group Purchasing Organizations for Higher Education?

Group purchasing organizations for higher education competitively solicit contracts or create negotiated contracts on behalf of multiple organizations. With a focus on cost reduction, plus procurement streamlining, GPOs within universities and higher education are becoming more popular. GPOs leverage spending across institutions and negotiate discounts and preferred provider agreements. Collective purchasing attracts more suppliers due to larger contract sizes. GPOs help schools with cost reduction, access to more products and suppliers, expert negotiation, spend analysis, streamlined purchasing, compliance, sustainability options, and diverse suppliers.
