The historic Mackay Stadium at the University of Nevada, has achieved full ADA compliance. Gilbane Construction provided construction management services for the renovation of the historic, outdoor athletic Mackay Stadium. This $2 million renovation brings Mackay Stadium into full ADA compliance.

The stadium seats 30,000 at full capacity, but before the project, lacked accessible wheelchair seating or areas for fans with disabilities. The scope of work included building new bleacher platforms, stairs, and handrails to make more sections of the stadium accessible to fans with disabilities. The project included designers moving in wheelchairs themselves and touring the stadium to check ramps for accessibility and to review sightlines. Doing this helped the Gilbane company to notice additional problem areas that were not addressed in the original plans, and provided the owner with ideas for additional improvement.

More about the project
The summer renovations aimed to add more wheelchair spaces, as the requirement for a stadium Mackay's size is 140. It added wheelchair spaces to the east side luxury boxes. And the renovation included unobstructed sight lines from the west side loge boxes. The renovation needed a reduction in the quantity of loge boxes available. It also included removing some rows in sections B-H, and M to obtain better sight lines. This brought the stadium to ADA code. Wolf Pack athletics oversaw the project, and has managed several renovations going all the way back to 2015. The stadium has also seen $11M in total renovations, $2.1M for a new video board and sound system, $1.3M for a new plaza on the north end of the stadium, and $400K for a new track.

The University of Nevada Wolf Pack opens the 2025 football season against Penn State.
