Cindy Lewis Stadium, home to Hofstra University’s field hockey program, is a premier facility located on the north side of the Hempstead, NY campus. Originally opened in 2007 as Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium, it was renamed in 2024 to honor longtime administrator Cindy Lewis. The stadium features bleacher seating, a press box, and a cutting-edge playing surface designed specifically for elite field hockey competition.

In 2023, the stadium underwent a major upgrade with the installation of FieldTurf Hockey Gold, replacing the original Sportexe® HockeyGrass™ Club turf. This advanced surface uses Elliptic fiber technology, offering enhanced durability and performance tailored to the sport’s demands. The upgrade reflects Hofstra’s commitment to providing top-tier facilities for its student-athletes.

The fiber for the Hockey Gold product is built with an elliptic monofilament. Elliptic monofilament is used in the highest performance sports like field hockey, engineered to provide a consistent surface regardless of the direction of plan. It offers exceptional durability, maintaining its form and structural integrity over time. And the turf backing is perforated, which provides essential drainage, allowing water to pass through small holes in the backing and drain into the sub-base below. This prevents waterlogging and promotes a healthy, dry surface.
