E&I Article, Featuring Our Contract Partner, Gilbane Construction
The Hillenbrand Aquatic Center is the home of the Arizona Wildcats swimming and diving team. Hillenbrand Aquatic Center is one of the premier outdoor swimming and diving facilities in the nation, after a recent $13 million dollar project, that was a part of the Arizona Athletics Capital Campaign. The state-of-the-art facility houses the Kasser Family Pool used for Wildcat divers as well as additional lanes for swim training. The upgrade included rebuilding and expanding the 50-meter pool to 65 meters, including the old diving well. The number of 25-yard short course lanes was expanded from 18 to 22 while the pump and plumbing infrastructure was completely overhauled. See more images below!

More about the project
The Hillenbrand Aquatic Center Improvements project included the renovation of a 1,000,000-gallon competition pool and the addition of a pool equipment room located on the University of Arizona’s campus in Tucson, AZ. The facility functions as a competition and training pool for student athletes and Olympians. Renovations of the pool consisted of the demolition of the original lap pool, the installation of a 65-meter by 25-yard-wide, 8-foot to 9-foot deep lap pool, and the removal of the original dive pool for construction of the pool equipment room. The equipment room was constructed on a concrete foundation with a concrete masonry unit block structural frame with hollow-core plank roof structure, a brick veneer exterior, and a TPO roof. Demolition of the existing pool and construction of the new competition pool took place a few feet from the secondary lap pool, which remained open and active throughout the project. Additionally, the construction site was adjacent to the university’s basketball stadium, which hosted several thousand people each home basketball game. The CORE team actively collaborated with the university and athletic program stakeholders to create a logistics plan that ensured safety while maintaining schedule goals. Through detailed communication and flexibility, CORE ultimately delivered a successful project with minimal impact to the campus.
