An E&I 2-Minute Read
Abilene Christian University (ACU) has completed a transformative renovation of Moody Coliseum, breathing new life into the historic venue that has served as the heart of campus events since 1968. The multi-million-dollar upgrade, finalized in 2023, was designed to elevate the fan experience and position the facility as one of the premier collegiate arenas in the Southwest.
Moody Coliseum now boasts a 2,000-square-foot club room, upgraded restrooms, improved accessibility, and cutting-edge audio-visual technology, including 21 LED boards. The renovation also added new locker rooms, training facilities, and academic spaces for student-athletes, reinforcing ACU’s holistic approach to athletic development.
One of the most striking additions to Moody Coliseum is the creation of luxury boxes and premium seating areas. These spaces provide an exclusive experience for alumni, donors, and fans seeking comfort and convenience. Luxury boxes have larger seats, increased legroom, and private hospitality areas, the luxury boxes reflect ACU’s commitment to combining tradition with innovation.
The renovation to Moody Coliseum also included upgrades to existing concessions to handle higher volumes, better food, and better service. The goal of the renovation was to match D1 standards for basketball games and campus assemblies.
The hospitality renovations included modern amenities, starting with expanding and upgrading concession stands with a wider variety of food and beverage options for fans. These improvements ensure that game days and special events deliver not only thrilling action on the court, but also a satisfying culinary experience. From classic stadium fare to healthier alternatives, the new concessions cater to diverse tastes and enhance the overall atmosphere. ACU worked with Stafford-Smith to help find the right kitchen equipment and design and install it. See new dining and kitchen equipment pictures above.
“Moody Coliseum is at the heart of many of our campus traditions,” said ACU President Dr. Phil Schubert during the reopening. “These upgrades ensure that it remains a vibrant gathering place for students, alumni, and the Abilene community.”
With these enhancements, Moody Coliseum stands ready to host unforgettable moments for generations to come—combining the magic of ACU athletics with modern comfort and style.
